The Cartesian (mechanistic/reductionist) worldview takes for granted that things need to be measured and weighed. Yet relationships cannot be measured and weighed, they need to be mapped. Mapping relationships implies a qualitative approach. Therefore, systems thinking entails a shift from quantities to qualities. Quantities fall short of meaning without an integral view.
